This book is the sequel to "The Golden Hour". It is an action-packed fantasy that will appeal to those who like time-travel and historical fiction.
Twins Xanthe and Xavier (African American teens) have serious sibling rivalry issues. Together with their friends Nina and Rowan they time-travel to ancient Egypt to help gather scrolls and return them to present-time. There they re-live history and meet Cleopatra and Caesar. However, sibling rivalry interferes, leading to a time travel chaos where history is changed and the present becomes an alternate reality. Then all four teens must work together to get history back on course and their reality (and lives) restored.
The likable main characters learn from their mistakes and mature in the process. I think it should be nominated for the Newbery Award for that reason.
