This novel is well worth reading and discussing. Tobin's voice is wonderful. Here's one of my favorite descriptions:
"Daddy finally landed back at the NASCAR news, where they were showing a race from the week before. He kicked his feet up on the table, his big yellow work boots hitting it with a loud thump. It was like all this time I'd been talking to Daddy from the sidewalk, him in his car, the motor idling, and now it was time for him to roll up his window and drive on. I clawed around in my mind for something else to say." (p. 63)
